Sounds so nice, I think I'll play it twice:

Credit fneww for this wisdom:

New alliance will supercede AMI the industry group which develops JEDEC memory standards. Neither Intel or Rambus are members of AMI which is working on a standard for DDR 2. Via and AMD are members of AMI. What appears to be happening is that Intel who is initiating the new alliance, is in effect asking the key DRAM makers to de facto dissolve AMI. The net effect will likely be to kill DDR 2 and to annoint Rambus as the next standard. Rambus may have to accept a revised royalty structure to be handed a 100% market share in 2003 and beyond, but if it only gets say 1% instead of 1.5% of a 60 bill DRAM market in 2003 (Dataquests estimate) thats not chump change.
