Compaq Sets All-Time Windows/NT Performance Record With Oracle Clustering & ProLiant 8-Way Technology; Shatters Previous TPC-C Performance Record by Nearly 2X; New Information on Compaq Website
HOUSTON, Jan. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE: CPQ - news), the world's leading server vendor, furthered its clustering and 8-way industry-standard computing technology lead today by setting an all-time TPC-C performance record for Windows/NT. The 99,274 tpmC result, achieved with a 6- node ProLiant 8500 cluster, Fibre Channel Storage and Oracle's advanced Parallel Server technology, crushed the previous record of 50,208 tpmC by nearly two times. As a result, this is the first time a Windows/NT platform has come close to breaking through the 100,000 tpmC barrier.

Compaq and Oracle's superior performance in clustering is not new. Over a year ago, Compaq set a record by being the first to break the 100,000 tpmC barrier with an Alpha Tru64 UNIX cluster. Additionally, Compaq's latest result also set a new price/performance record for a clustered system regardless of operating systems, coming in at $39.14/tpmC. That is 25 percent better than IBM, who had previously held the best price/performance record for the group. By taking a position in the top 8 tpmC postings for all operating systems, this dramatic performance breakthrough reaffirms Compaq and Oracle's combined clustering leadership on both Windows/NT as well as UNIX.

Compaq has once again shown that their ProLiant servers provide one of the industry's most reliable, highly scalable and cost-effective parallel database platforms for driving the most demanding applications in today's e-business economy.
