thanks for the Barron's article.

you are not out of place .....Tom is a lighting fast trader, I sometimes wonder if he holds anything longer than a week -vbg-

and we may end up being fairly active in the trading area.

I have done a lot of short-term trading as well.

both short and long-term thinking goes into the calculus.

I use the 50 dma a lot as well.

and I understand just what you mean by being extended too far above a given Moving average.

Here is a 10 year chart of the NASD that I created and posted on the Players Club, Myth thread back in mid Dec.

we actually got more than 42% and 4 standard deviations above the 200 dma!!!

I believe this is what you mean about being extended. I'll make an updated nasd chart this week
