Thanks for your support, Shaw.

Shaw is @HOME's largest and best supporter on a per home passed basis. As far as selling some shares when @HOME was trading around $110 pre split, I wish I had sold a few...

For example. 1 of every 3 internet connections in my city (Caglary pop. approx 875,000) is via SHAW@HOME. Of which Shaw has rights to half the territory. Rogers has the other half. So that number is probably close to 50% of every connection in Calgary is @HOME. How's that for manifest destiny?

Dec 6,1999
Shaw Cablesystems G.P. has reached a milestone of providing high-speed Internet service to 50,000 customers in Calgary. Recognized as the most wired city in Canada, Calgary is proving itself to be a high-technology hotbed for the Internet.
According to Angus Reid, Calgary is leading Canada in the adoption of residential Internet service. "One in every three Internet connections from the home in Calgary are now with Shaw's high-speed Internet service, Shaw@Home,"
said Peter Bissonnette, president of Shaw Cablesystems G.P. "We are listening to our customers and have delivered the fastest, most reliable and secure connections to the Internet." Shaw's sophisticated network architecture uses the most cutting-edge fibre optic technology available today. Shaw has recently completed a review of its network capabilities and customer growth projections. To ensure that customers never experience a bottleneck on its network, Shaw is spending an additional $100-million this year to provide an even faster gigabytes experience.

Sorry the link isn't working.

From the year end release Oct 27 1999:

Shaw's @Home subscriber level represents approximately 40 per cent penetration of Internet access homes in its markets at Aug. 31, 1999. That's of home's currently with internet access.

40% penetration... not bad.

Mr. Peter Bissonnette reports The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) issued a ruling today clarifying the status of the cable modem in the resale of high-speed Internet access by third party Internet service providers (ISPs).
Specifically, the CRTC decided that ISPs will be responsible for providing the cable modem when they resell high-speed Internet access to cable customers. "This decision now paves the way to negotiate resale arrangements with ISPs," said Peter Bissonnette, president of Shaw Cablesystems G.P. "We're pleased that the commission recognizes that the cable modem is customer premises equipment and the responsibility of the ISP. We can now move ahead to begin providing high-speed Internet resale consistent with the CRTC's policies," he added.

So in Canada the ISP or the customer pays for the modem, not the Cable co. One more inhibitive cost to an ISP competing with @HOME.
