Steve, Of course I know what "pushing the envelope" is. I've just never heard it used in the context of a church. I've always defined the term as going to extremes. It must mean you go to an extreme church. (just joking) This church search has been a very eye opening experience. I've visited some, what I would consider extreme churches, but always come back to the non-extreme churches, if you know what I mean. You are so right when you say, "So, it's impossible to live the christian life with natural abilities". We depend every minute of everyday on God to sustain us and to lead us in the right direction.
