SAN JOSE, Calif., April 24 /PRNewswire/ -- Atmel Corporation
(NASDAQ:ATML) announced today that the Company's president and chief executive officer, George Perlegos, was a recipient of the San Jose State University 1996 Engineering Award of Distinction. Mr. Perlegos received the award based on his outstanding contributions to the field of engineering in all of the following categories: professional achievement, service to the profession and service to society.
This award recognizes individuals who have made a significant contribution to the engineering profession. The award is sponsored by San Jose State University's College of Engineering. Previous recipients include Donald Beall, Chairman and CEO of Rockwell International Corporation; Howard Wolnowsky, Division Manager for Lockheed Missile and Space and Raymond Smelek, General Manager of Hewlett-Packard Corporation, to name a few.
"We commend George for his professional and personal achievements, and his service to engineering and the community," stated Donald E. Kirk, Dean of San Jose State University's College of Engineering.
"It is a great honor to be recognized for professional and community service to the engineering profession. I thank those who supported me through my educational and professional career, both as an engineer and entrepreneur," stated George Perlegos as he accepted the award.
