The world's #3 media company (Time Warner and Walt Disney are #1 and #2) has interests in 600 companies in more than 50 countries. It has extended its reach into music (Bertelsmann Music Group); publishing (Random House); TV and radio (49% of European broadcaster CLT-UFA); magazine and newspaper publishing (Gruner+Jahr); and printing (Bertelsmann Industrie). The company also has stakes in AOL and Sports 1 (German online sports information) and a 41% interest in barnesandnoble.com. Reinhard Mohn, a descendant of founder Carl Bertelsmann, has transferred his 90% voting stake in the company to a six-member management board (BVG) to ensure family control of the firm after his death. Well it kind of makes sense you know. A lot of people making those transatlantic calls between Europe and America.
