Canadian Corporate News, Canada NewsWire, BCE Emergis E-News Services and Canada-Stockwatch. What's the fifth you referred to Keith?
In any case, it would seem that I will have to get to work on the Perl script. Sigh... As far as I can tell, only CCN and CSW provide reasonable coverage of small-caps, and, as we all have seen, CSW is often too delayed.
The idea would be to have the program poll these sources periodically. If you have enough bandwidth, you could do this quite often. If you have a 56k connection you probably couldn't do it more often than once/min. What I would like is a simple scrolling window with entries like this (truncated for SI entry):
04:12:21 TIW Telesystem Interna... TIW files final prospectus... 04:05:44 NDY Normandy Mining Lt... Normandy Mining three-mont... 03:54:01 CSQ.A Cable Satisfaction... Cable Satisfaction complet...
where the ticker would be a link to a CSW quote and the headline would be a link to the source of the release/news.
This is still a hack however as a real service would provide other features -- to name just a few:
* show me only news based on keys (tickers, keywords, etc.) * restrict ticker news to stocks at $5 or more * provide price-action news a la tradehard.com * market snapshot updates (indices and so forth)
I find it hard to believe that the market in Canada is so small that this service is not provided. I tell ya what, everybody send me $100 and we put together a Linux server farm, sell the service to the public, and charter members will enjoy a lifetime subscription. <gggg>
TheBare: PM me if you are serious about working on a hack.
