Oh well, no wonder!!! <LOL>

Issue:
Animated images on our web page do not animate in Netscape Navigator 406 through 4.5 like they did in 4.04 and do in Internet Explorer.

Background:

The structure defined by the GIF 89a specification ( tronche.com allows for animating GIF files. GIF89a files can contain multiple images, and several "block" types. Without getting into the dissection of the GIF89a spec, and the many GIF Animators available, there is usually one issue: Why doesn't my animation "loop"?

A Block in an animated GIF enables you to specify things such as comments, text, transparency, and "loop" or iterations. Within your GIF89a file, there will be a block that states "Loop 'x' times". When Navigator reads the block information and displays the GIF, the GIF will loop as specified.

Answer:

If the block states to loop zero times, Navigator 4.5 reads the file and the GIF will not appear to animate. Navigators previous to version 4.5, and Internet Explorer do not see zero; they see infinity. In this instance, GIFs will loop indefinately in IE and previous versions of Navigator.

Open your animated GIF in your GIF editor and change the number of loops to more than zero.

Please refer to your GIF Animation application for documentation on "LOOP".
