Bob, you are not reading it quite as carefully as you could.

"components of the SAF module will be included as standard
features . . . ." The SAF module includes user interface and HA-API, of course, but to be usable it also has to have some rented biometrics. If Novell were using the whole SAF package as its biometrics operation, you wouldn't see the word "components" in that sentence. Why couldn't ESAF be referring to its rented biometric software as the "components of the SAF module [that] will be included as standard features in both the NMAS Starter Pack, available now, and the Enterprise Edition"?

Novell has placed both BioLogon and SAFlink software in its Starter Pack (see webapps.novell.com. It doesn't make sense that the Starter Pack will come equipped with two different fingerprint templates. My conclusion is that they have to be consistent -- ESAF has to be using the IDX template as a condition of participating in the Novell software rollout. The use of the IDX software also helps explain why Novell would be satisfied with the essentially insecure ESAF license arrangement, since Novell can basically tell Identix to continue to license to ESAF. The "IDX inside" theory gets additional support from the IDX release, which says "Biologon server for Netware will ship bundled with all NMAS modules for Netware 5.1" and "BioLogon software performs critically within the NMAS structure, providing the biometric fingerprint security component."

I completely agree that you have to be a Kremlinologist to try to figure this out. The key to me is that the Starter Pack has both IDX and ESAF software. That means the fingerprint biometrics involved have to be the same.
