David,

First of all let me say that I am not pretending to be an expert here...I am just trying to make heads or tails of these releases...and am just as confused as you are...if not moreso.

In any event, the Saflink release says that to activate the free 5 seat thing...all you have to do is download the BSP module from Saflink and install hardware (if necessary). As I understand it, the BSP is the rented algo that ESAF uses...am I wrong?

Here:

Support for Multiple Biometrics is provided as a standard feature of SAF2000. The product suite includes three "pluggable" biometric service provider (BSP) software modules for fingerprint, facial image and speech verification biometrics that encapsulate the processing and matching algorithms. These modules, when combined with qualified biometric capture devices (fingerprint scanner, digital video camera, or microphone/sound card), can be mixed and matched to meet the needs of a specific user, workstation configuration, and physical environment. Additional biometric service provider modules can be added to SAF2000 to support additional biometric technologies, such as iris recognition, or to support unique fingerprint scanner devices not supported with the supplied fingerprint BSP.

As I understand it...SAF2000 has a bunch of "components" that support NT an Unicenter...which are not included here...just the Novell Part.

Anyway...the way I see it...if the press release requires the download of BSPs and installation of hardware...then the rented algo can not be the included part in the Novell product because there would be no need to download the BSP then....

Therefore...what I think they are saying is that the entire SAF2000 package is not available here...no support for all forms of ID that SAF2000 supports...nor all the environments that SAF2000 supports. That is the "component" I think they are referring to...what do you think?

Regards,
Bob

THIS JUST IN:

thanks to the 15 minute edit window:

Included with the SAF2000 product suite are fingerprint, voice verification, and facial image recognition Biometric Service Provider (BSP) modules. These BSPs contain the capture, feature extraction, and matching capabilities of leading biometric technology vendors. A BSP module is specific to a biometric category (finger, voice, face, etc.) and a specific biometric vendor?s algorithm technology. BSPs "plug-into" the SAF2000 product suite by installing a BSP on the SAFserver and on one or more client workstations. Once installed, any or all of the SAF2000 application products can immediately make use of that BSP?s biometric technology. SAF2000 is qualified with fingerprint, voice, facial, and iris recognition technologies from a variety of leading biometrics vendors including, AuthenTec, Cogent Systems, Identicator, IriScan, ITT Industries, Lernout & Hauspie, Polaroid, SecuGen, Sensar, Veridicom, and Visionics. Additional biometric technologies are being qualified on an on-going basis.

Proof positive that we work with you guys...so an NRI sale is a potential IDX sale... I think it is clear that the rented biometric clearly is not what NRI meant when they said they have components of their software included.
