Korea Thrunet Launches New TV-Based Internet Service
SEOUL, South Korea and NEW YORK, Jan. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Korea Thrunet Co., Ltd. (Nasdaq: KOREA - news) and TriGem Computers Inc., a manufacturer of Computer, Internet and data communications equipment, today announced that Korea Thrunet launched ``Thrunet TV Internet Service' using a cable TV set-top PC developed by TriGem Computers.
Thrunet TV Internet Service targets end-users who prefer television sets to PCs for accessing Internet. Thrunet TV Internet Service enables consumers to be connected to Internet over a cable TV network via a newly developed set-top PC.
The set-top PC used for this service is equipped with a 233Mhz Cyrix CPU, a 4.3G hard drive, a floppy disk drive, a track ball mouse, and a wireless keyboard. Korea Thrunet provides this service to both existing and new customers of ``Thrunet Service', the Company's broadband Internet access service for PC and wireless users.
The regular price of the set-top PC is 560,000 won or approximately US$495. If a new subscriber signs up for a 2-year contract for both cable TV set-top PC and cable modem, the set-top PC can be leased for 10,000 won or approximately US$8.80 per month and includes a free cable modem.
Subscribers of Thrunet TV Internet Service can enjoy a broad range of Internet services, including on-line stock trading and multimedia contents on education, games, sports, news, movies, and music.
