RDRAM and DDR memory chips appear to be the next generation memory chips. If Rambus is ruled
to have IP on DDR, then Rambus has the next generation memory as a revenue stream with no competition.

Of course the memory makers do not like the royalty to Rambus for the memory/controllers
and they are trying to get around these patents. This case would set a precedence and make it
that much harder for any of the memory makers to circumvent royalty payments on the next generation
of memory and generations beyond.
