Folks,

Some interesting extracts from WIND's press release.

"Intelligent I/O platform includes the only commercially available I2O real time operating system (IRTOS)"
>WIND's IxWorks (IRTOS) is the only OS available for I2O.

"In addition, Intel's use of our I2O solution demonstrates that the IxWorks IRTOS can be readily integrated into a variety of server offload products for both server appliance and server networking applications"
>Clearly WIND is not going to just stop with RAID, they appear to have a series of I2O based products in mind.

"With the Wind River and ISI merger approaching completion, the combined company will be able to bring even more resources to bear on helping create targeted, innovative solutions like Integrated RAID"
>Jerry Fiddler clearly has big plans for I2O and the additional engineers from ISI.

Intel's press release
intel.com;
"This architecture will enable processor performance of up to 600 MHz at introduction and is designed to support emerging I/O technologies, including PCI-X and InfiniBand"
>I2O will also be used with PCI-x and of course InfiniBand.

Also,
Intel aims to drive RAID into low-end servers
