Object Design's XML-Based eXcelon Application Platform Selected to Power General Medical Computing's New Physician Portal Service
Internet-based service for physicians uses the industry's premier XML-based application platform to enable dynamic record keeping
BURLINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 19, 2000-- Object Design, Inc. (Nasdaq: ODIS), a global provider of innovative eBusiness products and solutions, today announced that its eXcelon dynamic application platform has been selected to power General Medical Computing's patient record portal for physicians. By leveraging the power of XML, General Medical Computing enables physicians to easily access and maintain accurate patient data, such as immunization records, prescription status and insurance information, on the Web.
With eXcelon as its platform, General Medical Computing blends structured information, like patient addresses, with unstructured information, like physician notes, and manages it all as XML data. This blending enables physicians to search through all patient information in order to quickly and accurately find specific data like patient allergies or pharmacy numbers. XML's extensibility also makes it easy for physicians to update records to include new types of information such as insurance documents or billing transactions.
Patients can also register on a physician's Web page and update certain portions of their own record, including facts about family medical history and number of children. This patient history information typically remains untouched and out-of-date in paper-based files. In addition, registered patients can make appointments with their physician through the site.
"eXcelon's ease-of-use and XML capabilities are an instrumental part of our services," said Perry Sedlar, owner of General Medical Computing. "With eXcelon, we're building powerful, time-saving solutions for busy doctors who need to maintain comprehensive patient records. Our Internet-based solutions also enable medical staff to quickly find critical patient data without searching through a wall of manila folders."
"Companies in virtually every industry are incorporating XML technology into their eBusiness applications," said Larry Alston, vice president of marketing at Object Design. "By using eXcelon, General Medical Computing has created a revolutionary way for physicians to maintain the vast amounts of medical information necessary to provide high-quality patient care."
