David,

With no offense intended...I don't see your point. You think that the IDX Biologon solution will be cheaper and I don't see why. Both SAF2000 and Biologon are applications that require the algo and hardware to run...so the only price differences that can account here are the price difference in the application and/or the price differences in algo and hardware. Are you saying that IDX is selling Biologon as to undercut the competition? If so, how? Because as I understand you...because of ESAF's algo license they will be more expensive... But that assumes that ESAF pays a whole lot for the license...and has to pass that on...and secondly...that assumes that IDX does not make any money off of the algo. I assume that the cost of the algo is like $10 or so...and that will have to be passed on...but I am not sure as to IDX not making any money off of the algo...I need proof.

As to the starter/production difference...I see it spelled out in ESAF's release that they are to be included in both...but I don't see that in IDX's release...hence my conclusion. If you could point to something that indicates otherwise...please do so.

That having been said re-read the esaf release and IDX release...you will see that both require downloads to work...for IDX...a download of Biologon Client...and for ESAF a BSP. That having been said...we move onto price/performance. Anyone who wants this stuff will ask how much is each solution going to cost and at what benefit from either? With ESAF...you can use the voice ID after a simple download. If nothing else...it shows the ease of biometrics....however with IDX...you need to download Bioclient AND buy a fingerprint scanner. While I may agree that fingerprint will predominate...these inclusions in Novell appear to me to be nothing more than "teaser" packages...and the IDX package requires a purchase to tease...and thus defeats the point...in my opinion.

Now then...as to price...neglecting the five included seats:

identicator.com

It appears that you need to purchase a BioClient thing for $40 each...and a BioServer thing for $899 for 25 people...although the price for the bioclient is not for the Novell system...as they have not released it...or pricing...yet. Is this correct?

For ESAF...the most current pricing I have is rather dated...nonetheless:

SAF2000 is available now with a suggested list price of $199.95. The base SAF2000 product suite includes a license for 10 users in the server database. Separately purchased user database expansion licenses start at $49.95 for each additional user and can be added at any time to accommodate the varied user populations found in enterprise networks. The above pricing allows user access from an unlimited number of workstations in the network.

So...there is no $899 server cost...just the cost per station...although that may be wrong. Of course this is for the "full" SAF2000 package...so per-user pricing may change... I assume that both IDX and ESAF would offer quantity discounts...so I am not going to factor that in.

Moving on...ESAF has Secugen and Veridicom...so other players are possible in terms of using ESAF's foothold here. So..ESAF is by no means dependent on IDX for anything. Secugen offers really cheap stuff too...at least in comparison with the DFR200....

Before I forget...has DFR300 started shipping...and if so...where can I get a quote on a per-unit basis... The IDT online store doesn't seem to offer it... There are no production delays or anything...is there?

Regards,
Bob
