AVL INFORMATION SYSTEMS LTD ("AVLL-Z") - Completes EDACS Integration
The engineering team at AVL Information Systems, Inc. (AVLIS) completed development on Thursday, December 23rd, 1999 that will allow their "SPRYTE" tracking unit to interface with the EDACS (Enhanced Digital Access Communication System) network offered by RACOM Corporation of Marshalltown, Iowa (www.racom.com). EDACS was developed by Ericsson, Inc. and is a premier wireless communication medium aimed especially at businesses with a need for extremely dependable and clear communications, such as ambulance companies or law enforcement agencies. RACOM is the exclusive distributor of Ericsson's EDACS Technology in the states of Iowa, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, and North Dakota. Their digital network is currently one of the largest in the Midwest. With the new integration of the two products, RACOM will become a distributor of AVLIS's already established GPS tracking products as well. New and existing RACOM customers will be able to put both technologies together for a very powerful combination of GPS Tracking and communication technology.
Community Transportation Inc., of Finleyville, PA, an existing customer of AVLIS, with an installed base of 18 units, has notified the company that it intends to more than double the size of their fleet currently using the "SPRYTE" units supplied by AVLIS. Commencing in late January and finishing in early spring CommTrans will phase -in an additional 22 units to their para-transit division. The eventual goal is to have the entire 500 unit fleet equipped with our AVL system.
Work on the new "FleetTrack" workstation has been completed and is being installed in all existing customer sites. AVLIS has a warranty policy with all end-users, that any upgrades in service will be added at a nominal cost. "FleetTrack" is a greatly enhanced product that allows for excellent event tracking capability along with customer based customization. Each customer can design and modify the on-scene presentation, change alarms and watch live internet updates, specific to their applications. Customers that have used the new workstation strongly endorse the improvements.
Delivery of our Internet Server for personal location applications had been delayed due to unforeseen technical problems. Bell Atlantic was to supply IP addressing for CDPD users but needed to modify their issuing policy due to some users reselling their address to multiple users and bypassing fees back to Bell. This problem seems to have been resolved and we should be operational soon after a brief seven day test period. Watch for our news release.
