Dear David:
Granted, Landis makes mistakes (he made many in the late 97 timeframe). However, my observation is that he picks secular trends, and has often proved to be right. For example, he had been recommending ZRAN when it was in the teens very early in 99. ZRAN had an earnings warning and bottomed at $8, but then it went up like a rocket. Same thing with TQNT in 98. So, he is often way too early, but his insights often take him in the right direction.
Landis and his crew (which includes Rex Dwyer, an SI alum whose insights are missed here) are original thinkers. Even if some of their picks are duds, it is refreshing to see some people who are thinking outside the box.
