Saturn 5, One thing will definitely spur the transition is the improved floating point performance which translates into better graphics performance. Also for pattern recognition & media processing needs more computing power. I feel that desktop machines will no longer be just PCs. They will become intelligent front end interface machines. Some variant of blue tooth technology at office (now that is an idea to develop a technology/product for the market). As far as Itanium getting to desktop, I feel that this will happen much faster than Intel can anticipate. Because it will provide a faster development hardware for all those Internet content developer. I would venture a guess in 2 years time frame you would be seeing them on the desktop. mula
