I personally believe news of being added to the TSE Composite Index isn't driving the stock: Thursday January 6, 2000 Please note the following changes to the indices before the open Friday, Jan. 21, 2000: Stocks to be added: MGI Software Corporation (MGI) TSE 300 Group/Subgroup-06.10 -- Technology/software TSE 200 -- N/A Norsat International Inc. (NII) TSE 300 Group/Subgroup-06.05 -- Technology/hardware TSE 200 -- N/A - - - - - - - MGI Software Corporation mgisoft.com was mentioned at the same time as Norsat and MGI just started running in the last 2 days. On Jan 17/00 MGI closed at 26.70, today it closed at 37.50 on large volume. Jan 6/00 - date of news about the TSE Composite Index, MGI closed at 27.95. On Jan 6/00 news about the TSE Composite Index, Norsat closed at 23.50, and climbed steady after that. That's 23.50 Canadian. Norsat closed today 38.60 on Toronto. If I get time, I'll call Norsat tomorrow. I don't have a position in MGI.
