Just a guess in the dark...

I'm not a games person, but try this: Right click My Computer, select Properties, Performance tab and click Graphics button, and you'll get a slider for hardware acceleration. Reduce it from the maximum and see if things improve.

P.S. I'm assuming you checked Device Manager and everything's OK in that department.
