Communications news Dow Jones Newswires -- April 24, 1997 Metromedia Launches Second Cellular System In Latvia EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (Dow Jones)--Metromedia International Group's (MMG) Metromedia International Telecommunications Inc. unit launched its second Global System for Mobile Communications cellular system to serve Latvia. In a press release Thursday, the company said it expects the project to exceed $40 million. The company's joint venture partners include Western Wireless Corp.'s (WWCA) Western Wireless International Corp. unit and Alina, a Latvian communications company. The service, operating as Baltcom GSM, currently covers the cities of Riga and Jurmala. Metromedia International is a global communications, media and entertainment company.
