Commiserations. There may be hope for you. I see ivillage has stepped up their TV and print ads considerably. The big push is on.
Now, politically I consider myself a feminist, but it's odd: I have never invested in, or seen others invest in, any commercial enterprise that in some way or another is expressly aimed at bringing women into solidarity with other women over some commercial item or activity (except maybe cosmetics and jewelry, which really don't count) that made money. From 'feminist' running shoes to 'feminist' medical products, and from 'feminist' magazines (except Cosmo, of course, which also doesn't count) to 'feminist' web sites and ecommerce, most seem to languish, then fail. Unfortunately, I would guess, the same cannot be said for commercial items and activities that exploit women.
I am sure there is a deeper message here somewhere, but the only one I took away -- years ago -- was don't waste my money. |
