Tele2 (UK) Selects Newbridge Networks to Deliver IP-Based
Service Platform

Tele2 (UK) to Roll Out IP Services Throughout the UK

Maidenhead, UK, January 20, 2000 € Newbridge Networks (NYSE:
NN; TSE: NNC) today announced that it has been awarded a £10
million contract by Tele2 (UK) Ltd € the pioneering high
speed wireless data communications company € to provide an
Internet protocol (IP)-based service platform to deliver
high speed, competitively priced Internet, extranet and
intranet services. Tele2 (UK)€s service provides wireless
broadband solutions up to six times faster and 80 percent
cheaper than other sources to private customers, as well as
small and medium-sized businesses.

The contract awarded is for the supply of Newbridge 36100
MainStreet® remote access concentrators and the Newbridge®
Timestep IPSEC security solution. The contract includes
ongoing, on-site service support to meet Tele2 (UK)€s needs
as its network expands.

By deploying the Newbridge technology, Tele2 (UK) is able to
leap to the next generation of Internet and corporate
intranet communications. Using advanced digital wireless
technology, which eliminates the need for costly cables,
Tele2 (UK) delivers enormous practical benefits in terms of
functionality, simplicity and cost.

€Tele2 (UK) is the first company in the world to offer such
a service to customers. The wireless technology used
provides a permanent, high-speed connection to the Internet
at a fraction of the cost of ISDN and leased line services.
And because we provide access straight to the Internet, we
act as the telco and Internet service provider all in one,€
said Peter Scrope, Chairman, Tele2 (UK).

He added, €The rapid pace of Tele2 (UK)€s expansion requires
a sturdy, reliable infrastructure, hence our ongoing
relationship with Newbridge Networks. Tele2 (UK) has been
trialing this service in the Thames Valley for over 12
months and as a result of its success, we are now
aggressively expanding the service across the UK, starting
with Nottingham, Leicester, Leeds and Bradford in the first
quarter of 2000 and aiming to achieve 60 percent coverage of
the population by 2003.€

€We have worked very closely with Tele2 (UK) over the past
12 months to develop a multi-level relationship through
which we have gained an in-depth understanding of its
business needs and its target markets,€ said Andreas Dohmen,
executive vice president and general manager, Europe, Middle
East and Africa, Newbridge Networks. € We have been
instrumental in the development of the IP services they will
be offering. Due to the success of this project, Newbridge
Networks was recently awarded the prestigious position as
Tele 2 (UK)'s Strategic €Partner in IP Networking€ within
the UK. We look forward to continuing to support the
company as it rolls out and expands its services across the
UK.€
