David, My problem: the press release that says the DFR300 is expected to be shipping means absolutely nothing to me. I expect to be king of the world tomorrow...but that may or may not happen. As to the statement that IDX is shipping in volume...everyone knows that...they are shipping the DFR200 in volume among other products. That does NOT mean that the DFR300 is shipping for sure....only that volume shipments of IDX product is happening which may or may not be DFR300 related. That's my problem...the statements you make are expectation and blanket in nature and prove nothing. Why does this bother me? Because if the DFR300 were shipping, I would expect major sales. $20 or whatever in quantity (hardware only, I assume??), that has to be too good to pass up...yet I have heard of no major sales or any press release confirming shipment of the DFR300. So until it is proven that it is shipping...I am not certain that it is. You said you heard of a production delay...could you elaborate? You brought up profit margins...why should I assume that the dfr200 was priced "WAAAAY" below $70? Would not the $99 option include Biologon as well as the algorithms...so that the price includes those things? That would mean that a 40% reduction may be had for the hardware itself...but I have heard of no reduction for the price of biologon or the algorithm (if algorithm pricing is included in the "total" price)... Hence what you are saying is that because the price of the hardware has dropped 40%...so to does the price of the entire package? Really? IDX is also going to cut the price of the biologon 40%?? Granted that I don't know what the price breakdown as to hardware/software/algorithm(if applicable) fits in here...but nonetheless...this is to be considered before we start throwing around $20 as the new price point. Nevertheless I agree that the price will be less...although I don't know by how much. Considering your math...which I do not doubt...the hardware was $35....and is now $20...if shipping...that means $85 for the package now...unless they reduce profit margins on the software...correct? As to Secugen being competitive...I meant with the dfr200...the only solution I know for sure is being shipped by IDX. I'll wait to see the DFR300 in production before I tackle that. Regards, Bob
