Medsite Announces Acquisition of American Medical Communications

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--January 20, 1999--

Developer Of Medical Education Programs Will Broaden Medsite University's Continuing Medical Education Offering Over The Internet

Cardiologist And Author Dr. Vincent Friedewald To Join Medsite As

Executive Medical Editor

Medsite, the physician's home on the Internet, announced today the acquisition of American Medical Communications, Inc. (AMC), a creator and producer of educational and informational products for physicians and other healthcare professionals.

The acquisition enhances Medsite's position in physician education, including formal Continuing Medical Education (CME), the annual course work physicians need to stay up to date and in some states, meet their licensing requirements. Medsite entered the field of online CME in November 1999 with the launch of Medsite University (located at the Medsite homepage, www.medsite.com), offering a curriculum of more than 700 hours of fully accredited CME. With the addition of AMC, Medsite will expand its library of online courses and acquire the capability for the creation of customized medical content.

The Company also announced that through the acquisition, Doctor Vincent Friedewald, a physician educator and author, as well as a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology, will join Medsite as Executive Medical Editor. As founder and former Chairman of AMC, Doctor Friedewald will actively serve Medsite as its physician advocate in the transition of the medical profession into Internet-based products and services.

Located in Houston, Texas, AMC has relationships with the largest medical center in the world, ideally suiting the Company's mission to design and develop high-quality, cost-effective programs for medical marketing, physician training, and patient education. Under its "Milestones in Medicine" brand, AMC provides the medical community with a broad range of communication, technologies, including print, materials for meetings and symposia, audio, video, multimedia and interactive software. The "Milestones" series has won numerous national awards for production and editorial excellence, and AMC's library includes a comprehensive collection of broadcast-standard health-related videos. The newest "Milestones" product, Interactive Grand Rounds, is produced in concert with leading peer-review medical publications and is designed to provide a unique, interactive series of CME programs on the Internet.

Among the values that online CME programs, such as Interactive Grand Rounds, bring physicians are ease of use, flexibility and cost-effectiveness. Physicians can fulfill their CME requirements on Medsite whenever it is convenient for them, whether at home or in the office, without incurring travel expenses to a remote location or taking time away from their practices or families.

"One of the many advantages of Internet-based educational programming resides in its power of interactivity, " said Doctor Friedewald, who also teaches a course in the principles of communication at the University of Notre Dame. "Interactivity compels the physician to become actively involved in the lesson at hand, enhancing retention as well as making the experience itself more enjoyable. In other words, we try to put some fun in education, while at the same time making it more effective."

Sundeep Bhan, CEO of Medsite, said, "With AMC, we particularly value the Company's relationships with significant thought-leaders in the medical profession, including physicians, journal editors and publishers, whose expertise we hope to leverage."
