Korean Body Cancels Part of Qualcomm's Cdma Patent

SEOUL, Jan 19 Asia Pulse - Part of Qualcomm's CDMA technologies patented in Korea have been cancelled, the Korean Industrial Property Office (KIPO) said Wednesday.
The office made the cancellation after examination of Qualcomm's eight technology patents registered with KIPO, to which Motorola raised objections.

KIPO said the recalled technologies are three of 49 technologies consisting of "system and method for generating signal wave forms in a CDMA cellular telephone system," which obtained a patent in April 1998.

Parts of the remaining seven technology patents under examination now could also face cancellation according to the outcome of the investigation, KIPO added.

According to patent law, a formal objection can be raised to a technology patent within three months after it is given if the technology is an existing one or one easily created out of other existing technologies.

Motorola also raised objection to Qualcomm's CDMA technology patents in the United States and Europe.
