Ramblings: -
Very hot sector - optical equipment: GLW and JDSU have been blowing the roof off. ETEK is involved JDSU in a merger now, and OAK is with Corning (GLW) - so they are running with them. ORTL and SDLI others that have moved HUGER in this sector.
AOL-TWX seems to have cast a deep gloom over internet evaluations. CMGI has announced some major re-alignments and YHOO looked like it was going to get going today, but poo-poo'ed.
THe big techs announce blow-out earnings - and go down. The banks announce blow out earnings, and go down.
Its getting hard to make a buck in this market. Need to look under different rocks than the ones that have been lucrative.
Like CVG (Convergys) little billing co that was spun off from Cinci Bell,(CVG was mentioned in this weeks Barron's, page 4, which probably accounts for its pop) ONT has had some excellent news releases and think that it will zoom later this month or next. has established a nice base in the high teens.
The OLB, AMTD, NITE, EGRP all suk right now. NITE reported excellent earnings, had a brief run up, then sank 10% today.
Drugs are OK, but no ooomph
OILs are ok, but no ooomph
Biotechs are rockets.
Still really like ABIZ, very steady climber, NOVL looks like it supported nicely in low 30s and should start moving. CD remains one of the strongest value plays. CMGI is THE strongest internet play, IMO, and MRK is a strong representative of the drug sector. These are my 5 picks in the z portfolio and i intend to hold them for the forseeable future. If i were to add any stocks to the portfolio, i would add GLW and INTU. jmho. larry
