this statement by Jacobs was made during the Kyocera purchase analysts conference. the comment was made in comparison to CDMA2000 and WCDMA relative to buildout/testing phase in regard to full data rate capabilities.

I think you are confused. I recall Jacobs talking about time to market advantages for Qualcomm's favored technologies namely HDR, 1XRTT and 3XRTT (CDMA2000). Why would he claim WCDMA has time to market advantages when he has always claimed that Qualcomm has the lead in CDMA technologies including 3G?

As a side note, I have been following Irwin Jacobs for a number of years and have found him to be very reliable.

by the way; if you could list even one piece of broadband intellectual property which Interdigital is currently holding which makes Interdigital a loser in your eyes, would like to see it.

That's a silly challenge. I have never heard of IPR being a liability. What can limit IDC's profit potential is not what they have, it's what they don't have, the essential building blocks of CDMA (wide or narrow). I am not familiar with their GSM (TDMA) IPR but if it is so valuable I am surprised it has not yet shown up on their balance sheet. That's not to say that they couldn't win an IPR suit and develop an income stream, just that I wouldn't pay the asking price of IDC stock on the chance that this may happen.

By the way, it's not that I have anything against the company. I just think investors need to use a little prudence before they put their investment capital in a high risk situation, especially at prices above $20/share.
