Although the quarterly results are not pretty, it looks like things will be getting better from here. The CD-RW product should ramp up to a meaningful volume in the short term, it certainly has the right features to succeed. From the conference call, although they were cautious about mentioning design wins, it appears that some CD-RW design wins will start shipment in the second half of the year, and the prospects for the volume of CD-RW shipment by that time are very good with PC OEMs looking at mainstream adoption. It looks like LG is an early adopter that worked with OAKT before the chip was completed, thereby being able to bring a drive to market well before other customers.

There's also a level of security with the LG and Samsung partnerships, which also bodes well for Oak's investment in DVD technology. They should be coming out with some kind of integrated product for the DVD market, and with two of the world's largest DVD-ROM and DVD-player manufacturers as a likely customer, they would be virtually assured of shipment volume.

The digital office equipment business also provides somes security. This looks like a solid, profitable, niche.
