With a little luck, that will change on February 18th.

Right now the "know your Customer" regulations of the IDA in Canada require human intervention and assessment of each order entered by customers even though no investment advice is being provided. The brokers are expected to be better judges of whether or not an order is appropriate than their customers.

Hopefully, on the 18th, the IDA will retract that regulation as opposed to keeping their heads up their *very dark places where sun doesn't shine*.

There are other reasons why Canadians may choose to keep their assets / or at least records of those assets in Canada as opposed to relocating them to a foreign country.

FWIW,
Ian.
