Tejek, Amd has little choice but to grow inventories. But I would hope that they are holding the highest speed grades in inventory. These can be carried for the greatest length of time and still make a decent contribution when sold.

AMD's worst nightmare is to be caught short again when customers put demands on them (forecasted or unforecasted). Just a few of the things that inventory will provide for are:

Orders from new customers
Orders for new model lines/SKUs from present customers
Buffering for the Socket A intro and ramp up glitches
Buffering for slow or inadequate Socket A support from infrastructure partners

AMD's roadmap has a lot of sharp curves over the next year, and I'm sure both AMD and their customers will feel a little more at ease with some good insurance.

I think Jerry hinted during the cc that they might be more concerned about having too little inventory as opposed to too much.
