Semiconductor Equipment Orders Rise in December
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. (Reuters) - Semiconductor equipment orders from North American manufacturers in December rose from November, according to the Semiconductor Equipment and Materials International trade group.

The book-to-bill ratio of 1.18, which was up from 1.10 in November, means $118 in orders were received for each $100 worth of products shipped.

''The strong semiconductor equipment order pattern that began last fall has continued through December,'' said Stanley Myers, president of the trade group said.

''As the semiconductor industry continues to report strong sales, the move to invest in new technologies has been accelerating.''

The three-month average of worldwide shipments in December 1999 was $1.56 billion, one percent above November and 69 percent over December 1998. The three-month average of bookings in December 1999 was $1.83 billion, eight percent above November, and 108 percent over December 1998.
