Here's one we'vd discussed in the past, making their mark in fiber networking and bandwidth trading. This is another sign (see below) from Enron that they are increasing their stake in fat pipes that deliver more than just gas. Up until now they've focused on leveraging their energy pipeline rights of way for the installation of fiber routes, while leading the way to trading in bandwidth commodities, futures and derivatives. Just how long they could remain a component of the parent company is anybody's guess. I suspect we'll see some form of tele-tracker, or spinoff, at some point. But of course, I could be wrong.

Enron Corp.'s (NYSE:ENE - news) Internet communications unit entered into a deal for Sun Microsystems to provide the computers and data storage needed for Enron to launch a five-year build-out of its Internet-based fiber and satellite communications network. The deal is worth about $350 million to Sun. Enron closed at 67-1/4.
