[USRX conf call]

Ross --

I'm working on getting a clarification of the 6 mos. holding period for insiders. In the meantime, here's a summary of today's USRX conference call. Having someone as big as USR validate the xDSL market is a double-edged sword, to be sure. Glad for the acceptance; not so sure about the competition.

USRX conference call: 800-696-1563, #164010

Discussion of X2, emphasizing their time-to-market advantage. Deployment schedules are outside their control, but "all early indications point to early and rapid introduction."

Standards bodies have merged. A decision could be approved as early as January 1998. The standard will aid growth.

With ISPs, speed is critically important. Initially there was a 20 to 1 ratio of modems per users, and by end of this year it will be closer to 10 to 1.

Broadband products:

Due to switch overloads on LECs and PTTs there is a need to divert traffic away from C/O. How to cost-effectively deploy xDSL? USR demonstrated its "Release1" products at CeBit this spring. Trials are currently beginning in France and Spain. The initial market for xDSL will be in Europe. [USR] has 4 trials now in U.S. and 5 in Europe. Goal is to drive down costs as market grows. Any solution has to be flexible, scalable, and cost-effective. USR will begin with RADSL to ethernet router using CAP modulation scheme. Recently Aware announced it has licensed its DMT intellectual property and USRX will support both line modulations. The RADSL solution will operate at transfer speeds of 7Mbps downstream and 1Mbps upstream at 12,000 feet. Through the coming months USR will expand and enhance its position through more key alliances. The market has great potential. There will not be significant revenues until 1998.

[End of DSL discussion.]
