*EMC faces competition from IBM. IBM relinquished its storage market to EMC a few years ago, but has announced that it will be providing a SAN product.*

Beyond Shark?

*While I recognized that EMC was well behind NTAP in the NAS market, I assumed that they will prove a fierce competitor.*

Their track record is such (fierce competitor). As IBM well knows.

This is going to be interesting going forward. As I've said before, this is the only tech sector where I have chosen to hedge my bets. My thinking with UNPH, was why invest in SDL or E-TEK over the leader & now King, JDSU?

The difference I am seeing here is that we have two distinct subsectors, and separate kings of each. While the blurring of the lines may be in the offing due to EMC entering the NAS market, I think we can be assured that each will do quite well in their own "sectors" for the foreseeable future, if for nothing else than the substantially increased market they are facing.

Right now it does not appear that either has immediate competition, but we must maintain constant surveillance, for they are both kings, not gorillas.
