I'm finding Fido's service comparable to Schwab for my purposes. The only clear advantage I can give Schwab is the depth of research material available. But I can find most anything I need/want elsewhere on the web. Fidelity does have a clear advantage in terms of commissions.

So far as the 'freeze', work around it. Schwab, like most brokers, is not very fast with processing a transfer out. I lost enough $$$ when I transferred some stuff out of Schwab a few years back that this time I decided to sell at Schwab and re-buy at Fido and just have cash wired. It'll take longer this way but its less frustrating and, ultimately, less costly. Most importantly, I control the process, not Schwab.
