Paul Able, Manager of The Medical Fund
The following interview was conducted by Joe Dancy of the Internet Financial Connection on the Silicon Investor - Start Audio Now

Paul Able manages The Medical Fund, a fund that was recently established to invest in companies that are looking for cures or treatments for cancer. Because of recent developments he feels that this area is a good area to invest in, and they look at both biotechs as well as larger pharmaceutical firms. Growth in the sector could be "explosive" over the next few years according to Paul - and now is a good time to establish a position in this sector in his opinion.

The fund mixes both large and small cap firms, and holds some small cap firms that have "explosive potential." The Medical Fund evaluates companies using two criteria. First the company must have "compelling" science. The product or treatment they are working to develop must have a strong scientific basis. Secondly, the company must have strong finances or alliances to allow it to complete testing and obtain FDA approval of potential products.

Some of the small cap companies that Paul sees having strong growth potential is the Canadian firm Biomira (NASDAQ: BIOM), Medarix (NASDAQ: MEDX), and recent IPO Teleric. All have substantial potential products in the pipeline, and the ability to move the development down the pipeline with their financial strength or alliances.
