I actually think Nextel would be better off stumbling along selling their walkie-talkie phones and stay away from the additional financing.

I agree. Of course then McCaw and other insiders wouldn't have years to unload their interest in Nextel before people figured out that the emperor has no clothes.

On the otherhand, a big infusion of cash could allow Nextel to build a state-of-the-art nationwide CDMA network and migrate the current subs over. The way wireless is exploding, and with the data potential, who says there isn't room for another nationwide carrier?
