Wayne Newton Returning To Vegas

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Wayne Newton plans to return to Las Vegas in style this month with a police motorcade escorting his $360,000 Rolls-Royce to the Stardust Resort.

Newton on Saturday announced a 40 weeks-a-year, decade-long contract with Boyd Gaming Corp (NYSE:BYD - news)., owners of the Stardust Resort and Casino.

``I am thrilled to begin what I believe will be the most exciting, productive and fulfilling time of my professional life,' Newton said.

Financial details of the contract weren't disclosed, but Boyd called the multimillion dollar deal one of the biggest in the entertainment industry.

To celebrate the event, the entertainer will be on hand Thursday to flip the switch on the massive $2.5 million Stardust sign on the Las Vegas Strip. The marquee and its 33,600 lights now includes The Wayne Newton Theater.

``I've seen my name in lights for many years in Las Vegas, but I'm truly proud to call the Stardust Resort my new home,' said Newton, who has been performing in Branson, Mo., in recent years.
