I posted that without digging in enough. If the companies are going to use the wap protocol as written looks like they will have to go to gwrx. I still think some may try and get around it by not using parts of the protocol that the gwrx patents cover - but I am not sure how sucessfull that will be.

I know phone.com also has patents that are covering part of the wap protocol. Do you know of any others?

I really think that WAP screwed up here. Most of the time a protocol standard is developed the companies that put in IP to be considered as part of the protocol are forced to put the IP into public domain if it is used as part of the protocol. It will be interesting to see how the big boys- i.e. Motorola, Nok, etc. respond to this.
