Rapture: Continued.....
The concept of a rapture is not found in the Old Testament and the first time it has been revealed is in John 14 that prior to the Second Coming there would be a removal of believers in Christ from the earth. We will meet the Lord and go to the place He was preparing for them. (An obvious reference to Heaven) This is an important point in understanding the doctrine, because it makes clear that the purpose of the rapture is entirely different from that of the Second Coming. At His Second Coming, Jesus will come back to judge and reighn over the earth. In the Rapture He will come to take His own out of the world and take them to His Father's House. The two events have nothing in common except that both are referred to as a "coming."
Posttribulationationists are hard pressed to explain this passage with any relevance to what the passage actually says.
The Rapture in 1 Thessalonians 4-5 Revelation was given to Paul concerning the doctrine of the Rapture. Most importantly to me and other Christians is that in 1 Thessalonians 4:13 Paul points out that the practical value of the Rapture is that those expecting the Lord's return do not greive like others who have no hope.
What was once prophesy has now been historically and literally fulfilled. When Paul asserted that Thessalonians belief in the Rapture was just as certain as there belief in the death and resurrection of Christ, He was elevating the Rapture to a very important doctrinal position.
More later,
God be with you all,
James
