If you want this thread to be about stocks then accept my challenge.

If I may interject an opinion here for just a moment:

While stock picking competitions are a lot of fun, I'd like to point out that stock-picking ability shouldn't be the sole criterium for determining the value of a thread participant. And stock-picking isn't the only definition of a thread that is "about stocks". It was never more than a small part of what this thread has been about.

I've always viewed this thread as more of a free-for-all discussion forum with a richly eclectic mix of personalities and some stock-picking also happening.

This thread was pretty active for a few days, then started going downhill again when the thread's originator suddenly became the topic.

Tim is not the topic. I'd be hard-pressed to define just what the topic is, but whatever it might be, it's written lightly in pencil; it can change quickly.

I think the closest I can come up with is that it's a loose-knit collection of a lot of people who have come together under one roof to talk about stocks or whatever is on their mind.

Since this thread has been abandoned by its originator, if the thread can collectively come up with a new name and opening message, I'll make the change (including a notation of the text originator and date of change). I know from experience that writing anything by committee can be next to impossible but I'd bet it can be done here.

Anyway, as much fun as stock-picking competitions can be, they're also fraught with problems.

To me, a far better challenge would be to collectively figure out what this thread is really "about" and get it on that path. It's far too interesting a mix of personalities to see it reduced to stock-picking.

That's just my opinion; I could be wrong.
