Zeuspaul,

The R1 modems connect through a serial port, but the R2 external modems will connect through USB port, and Novatel and Sierra will also be making PCMCIA card modems. I don't know if the R2 modems will have a serial port option or not, but you will be able to use the old serial port connected SX modems at 56 kbps on the R2 network. If the new R2 external modems do have a serial port option, I'm not sure if they can get more than 115 kbps through a normal serial port. You can always call or email MCOM technical support, they are very responsive.

I wouldn't be surprised to see some devices coming out before too long with MCOM R2 modem chipsets integrated into handheld devices or PC motherboards. Intel had a job add recently looking for RF design engineers to work with 900 MHz radio applications.
