panic_mob, re:Intel antagonists could try Athlon

...

There's also concern that Intel will significantly drop prices on its high-end systems. Last summer, AMD weathered a second-quarter net loss of $162 million, thanks in part to a price war with Intel in the low-end PC market.

I have been seeing this in every article where the author/analys while admitting AMD advances, warn the market what Intel could do by slashing prices or cranking up those cumines and flooding the market. Intel for sure, could do these things and can hurt AMD. But in my opinion, Intel's price slashing weapon is not as potent as it used to be. It's all because of Athlon & RAMBUS.

The concern of Intel price cuts is out of date. Thanks to 180nm Athlon bin splits. All at or above 800MHZ with 0.1V VCC increase.

IMHO, this caution will eventually disappear. A new one will gradually emerge where the analysts will start pondering what would happen to Intel THE STOCK when AMD cuts its prices on the high end.

AMD is gaining control over setting the prices. OEMS are gaining control over how to run their businesses instead of being dictated by their supplier. With Gateway problem, oems coming back to their senses about the importance of having a second source. It's going to take some time for the market and the analysts to see this and stop repeating the above out of date concern every time they open their mouths.
