Let's talk about Gateway for a second.

Gateway was obviously planning on using AMD Athlon even as they made the big announcement not to use AMD anymore. Then, they used the earnings shortfall as a very convenient excuse to go back to AMD. What a bunch of showmanship. If AMD and Gateway weren't working on the Gateway systems for the entire time then nothing would have been designed, tested, and manufactured in quantity just ready to sell the same day as the announcement.

Folks, you don't just decide to change your system bus in 1 day, and then come out with a board the next day. You don't just put together AND THEN FLAWLESSLY EXECUTE a manufacturing and marketing plan. These things take months. Gateway knew what it was going to do as it was taking the check from iNTEL's hand. Gateway was going to punish iNTEL for always treating Dell as a favorite son by taking iNTEL's bribe money. This would be followed by a public trashing of iNTEL and blaming them for all of their problems. This would allow them to show a reason to go back to AMD. Without this, Gateway's flip flopping moves would have been seen as confusion in management. As it is, it just looks like Gateway's the injured party, and AMD is Gateway's saviour (since Gateway is now saying that they are comfortable with the current quarter's estimates).
