Gateway was obviously planning on using AMD Athlon even as they made the big announcement not to use AMD anymore. Then, they used the earnings shortfall as a very convenient excuse to go back to AMD. What a bunch of showmanship. If AMD and Gateway weren't working on the Gateway systems for the entire time then nothing would have been designed, tested, and manufactured in quantity just ready to sell the same day as the announcement.>

This guy does not have his facts straight. Athlons were in consideration at Gateway in the Q2/3 time frame. It appears that AMD failed to deliver on time to Gateway due to motherboard problems and at the same time Intel promised the moon causing AMD to lose the design win they had.

Claiming conspiracy to the timing of Gateway/AMD relationship seems a bit far-fetched to me.
