FLEXION SYSTEMS: Top Levi's communicator joins start-up aimed at small business
Derek van Bronkhorst, the former Director of Global Communications at Levi Strauss & Co has joined Flexion Systems, an international start-up business, as the Global Head of Marketing.
Although van Bronkhorst will be tasked with overseeing all marketing to Flexion's wide range of audiences, including the channel and software providers, his extensive consumer marketing experience will be particularly valuable in reaching Flexion's ultimate end-users in the fast growing small to medium sized enterprise (SME) sector.
The challenge facing van Bronkhorst at Flexion is to demonstrate how the integration of voice and data technologies with applications can bring effective customer relationship management within the reach of small businesses.
Van Bronkhorst is well qualified to take on this challenge. In his previous role at Levi's, he was responsible forstrategic communications planning across the organisation from mass consumer campaigns to programmes for more niche audiences. At Levi's, van Bronkhorst's combined his communications expertise with his interest in technology to drive Levi's online initiatives, including the development and promotion of the company's Internet and intranet sites, and assisting in the introduction of a very successful consumer e-commerce strategy.
Van Bronkhorst's work at Levi's built on experience he had gained at Siemens, where he was responsible for all areas of communications: managing strategic planning for corporate and product announcements and acting as the official company spokesperson. Van Bronkhorst was also instrumental in the concept development for the Siemens Internet site.
Andrew Bale, Chief Executive Officer of Flexion Systems explained the appointment: "Small businesses are increasingly aware that really efficient communications are key to owning the competitive edge but knowing what they need and where to find it can be difficult. Derek will be able to explain the options open to them and hopefully point small businesses in our direction. I think Derek has the skills and breadth of experience to breathe fire into our proposition and really bring the Flexion solution to life."
Van Bronkhorst added, "These are really exciting times for small businesses - the world of electronic communications, especially e-commerce, has meant that they no longer have to think small and that they can now look to compete professionally with the best in their market. Flexion will be a catalyst in turning this business opportunity into a reality for its users. Demonstrating the benefits up-front is the real challenge, as it is with any new idea, but it's one I'm looking forward to."
