Re: 10 years of patent protection. SDRAM may have been out in some low-volume forms earlier, but it didn't appear in PCs until mid-1996 (I know, I bought one of the first SDRAM systems from Gateway and got nailed because they used a version that ended up NOT becoming the standard). I didn't see anything in the lawsuits about previous forms of DRAM (EDO, etc.) so at least from a royalty point of view, their claims would probably only go back to 1996.
