Paul, of course, a background such as you describe for analysts is the way it ought to work. I suspect that you will find more expertise among analysts in the larger financial centers. Being somewhat removed from those centers may give me a different bias. Yet, I read many publications issued by investment houses, including some of the largest and most well known. I am astonished that some of their views even get published. I've maintained contact with several analysts in the New York City area, and while there may be lots who are experts, there are lots more who aren't! And as far as portfolio managers go, the one thing they hate is to do WORSE than their competitors. This means they usually are more comfortable going with the flow, rather than striking out on their own and risking a bad quarter. Art
